Information
Azapress, known generically as azathioprine, is a medication primarily used in the management of autoimmune diseases and to prevent organ rejection in transplant patients. It functions as an immunosuppressant, meaning it reduces the activity of the patient's immune system. By doing so, Azapress helps to prevent the immune system from attacking its own tissues in autoimmune diseases or rejecting a transplanted organ. It is often prescribed for conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis, Crohn's disease, and lupus, among others. Azathioprine works by inhibiting the synthesis of DNA in immune cells, thereby reducing their proliferation and activity. While effective, it requires careful monitoring due to potential side effects, including increased susceptibility to infections and a possible increased risk of certain cancers.
