Information
Cidomycin, also known by its generic name Gentamicin, is a potent antibiotic belonging to the aminoglycoside class. It is primarily used to treat a variety of bacterial infections, particularly those caused by gram-negative bacteria. Cidomycin works by inhibiting the production of proteins necessary for bacterial growth, effectively killing the bacteria and treating the infection. It is administered either intravenously or through intramuscular injections, depending on the severity and type of infection. Due to its potent nature, Cidomycin is often reserved for severe or complicated infections that are resistant to other antibiotics. However, it is important to use this medication under strict medical supervision as it can cause side effects, including nephrotoxicity (kidney damage) and ototoxicity (hearing loss), especially with prolonged use or in patients with pre-existing kidney conditions.
