Information
DANTRIUM I.V., also known by its generic name dantrolene sodium, is a prescription medication administered intravenously. It is primarily used in the treatment of malignant hyperthermia, a rare but life-threatening condition often triggered by certain types of anesthesia during surgery. Malignant hyperthermia causes a rapid increase in body temperature and severe muscle contractions. DANTRIUM I.V. works by directly acting on skeletal muscle, inhibiting the excessive release of calcium from the sarcoplasmic reticulum, thereby relaxing the muscles and reducing metabolic demand. This action helps in controlling the symptoms of malignant hyperthermia, making DANTRIUM I.V. a critical component in emergency medical settings. Additionally, it may be used in the management of neuroleptic malignant syndrome, a similar disorder.
