Information
DUODOPA is a medication primarily used in the treatment of advanced Parkinson's disease. It is a combination of two active ingredients: levodopa and carbidopa. Levodopa is converted into dopamine in the brain, helping to control movement and alleviate some of the symptoms of Parkinson's disease, such as stiffness and slowness of movement. Carbidopa is included to prevent the premature conversion of levodopa into dopamine outside of the brain, ensuring more levodopa reaches the brain and reducing side effects like nausea. DUODOPA is administered through a gel formulation that is delivered directly into the small intestine via a portable pump and a tube, bypassing the stomach to improve absorption and provide a more consistent and controlled delivery of medication. This method of administration is particularly beneficial for patients who have not responded adequately to oral medications or who experience severe fluctuations in their condition.
