Information
Esmeron, known generically as rocuronium bromide, is a non-depolarizing neuromuscular blocking agent commonly used in modern anesthesia to facilitate tracheal intubation during surgery and to provide skeletal muscle relaxation during surgery or mechanical ventilation. It is part of the aminosteroid class of neuromuscular blockers and acts by competing with acetylcholine for receptors at the motor end plate, inhibiting neuromuscular transmission. This action results in muscle paralysis. Esmeron is administered intravenously, and its effects are rapid in onset but of intermediate duration, making it suitable for both short and long procedures. The use of Esmeron requires careful monitoring of neuromuscular function and should be administered by or under the supervision of experienced clinicians familiar with its action and the management of respiratory effects.
