Information
EUCREAS is a prescription medication used in the management of type 2 diabetes, a condition characterized by high blood sugar levels due to the body's inability to produce enough insulin or use insulin effectively. It is a combination medicine that contains two active ingredients: vildagliptin and metformin. Vildagliptin belongs to a class of drugs known as dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4) inhibitors, which work by increasing the release of insulin when blood sugar levels are high. Metformin, on the other hand, works by decreasing glucose production in the liver and improving the body's sensitivity to insulin. Together, these components help to control blood sugar levels, thereby reducing the risk of diabetes-related complications. EUCREAS is typically prescribed when diet, exercise, and a single antidiabetic medication do not adequately control blood sugar levels.
