Ezetrol, known generically as ezetimibe, is a medication primarily used to lower cholesterol levels in individuals with hyperlipidemia. It operates by inhibiting the absorption of cholesterol in the small intestine, which in turn reduces the amount of total cholesterol, low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol, and triglycerides in the blood, while potentially increasing high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol levels. Ezetrol can be used alone or in combination with other lipid-lowering treatments, such as statins, for enhanced effectiveness.
