FASTURTEC, known generically as rasburicase, is a medication primarily used in the management of tumor lysis syndrome (TLS), a condition that can occur after the treatment of cancer, particularly in hematologic malignancies like leukemia and lymphoma. TLS is characterized by the rapid release of intracellular contents, including uric acid, into the bloodstream following the breakdown of cancer cells, which can lead to kidney failure and other serious complications. FASTURTEC works by converting uric acid into allantoin, a more soluble compound that is easily excreted by the kidneys.
