Information
Fosavance is a combination medication used in the treatment of osteoporosis in postmenopausal women and in men at risk of developing bone fractures. It contains two active ingredients: alendronate sodium and cholecalciferol, which is vitamin D3. Alendronate sodium belongs to a class of drugs known as bisphosphonates, which work by preventing the loss of bone mass and increasing bone density by inhibiting the activity of osteoclasts, cells that break down bone tissue. Cholecalciferol, on the other hand, aids in the absorption of calcium and phosphorus from the gastrointestinal tract, essential minerals for healthy bone formation. Fosavance is designed to not only strengthen the bones and reduce the risk of fractures but also to ensure that the body has an adequate supply of vitamin D, crucial for bone health. It is typically administered once a week, and it's important for patients to follow their healthcare provider's instructions closely to maximize the benefits of this medication while minimizing potential side effects.
