Galvus, with the active ingredient vildagliptin, is an oral antidiabetic medication used to manage blood sugar levels in individuals with type 2 diabetes. It belongs to a class of drugs known as dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4) inhibitors, which work by increasing the amount of insulin produced by the body after meals when blood sugar is high. Additionally, Galvus helps to decrease the amount of sugar made by the liver. It is often prescribed in combination with other diabetes medications or as a standalone treatment when diet and exercise alone do not provide adequate blood sugar control. Galvus is not used for the treatment of type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis.
