Glyxambi is a prescription medication used in the management of type 2 diabetes mellitus in adults. It is a combination of two active ingredients, empagliflozin and linagliptin. Empagliflozin belongs to a class of drugs known as sodium-glucose co-transporter 2 (SGLT2) inhibitors, which work by helping the kidneys remove glucose from the bloodstream through the urine. Linagliptin is a dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4) inhibitor that works by increasing the levels of incretins, hormones that help control blood sugar by increasing insulin release, especially after a meal, and decreasing the amount of sugar made by the body. Glyxambi is taken orally, once daily, and is used alongside diet and exercise to improve blood sugar control in adults with type 2 diabetes.
