IMFINZI, also known by its generic name durvalumab, is a type of medication classified as an immune checkpoint inhibitor, specifically targeting the PD-L1 protein found on the surface of cancer cells. It is part of a broader category of cancer treatments known as immunotherapy, which works by empowering the body's immune system to recognize and fight cancer cells more effectively. IMFINZI is primarily used in the treatment of certain types of lung cancer, including non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) and extensive-stage small cell lung cancer (SCLC), as well as other cancers like bladder cancer. It is administered through intravenous infusion and has been shown to improve survival rates in some patients when used as part of first-line therapy or in combination with other treatments.
