Information
Imigran, known generically as sumatriptan, is a medication primarily used in the treatment of migraine headaches. It belongs to a class of drugs known as triptans, which work by stimulating serotonin (a natural substance) receptors in the brain to reduce inflammation and constrict blood vessels, thereby alleviating the pain and other symptoms associated with migraines. Imigran is effective in relieving headache pain, as well as addressing the nausea, vomiting, and sensitivity to light and sound that often accompany migraines. It is available in various forms, including tablets, nasal sprays, and injections, allowing for flexibility in administration based on the severity of the migraine and patient preference. However, it is not intended for the prophylactic treatment of migraines or for the relief of tension headaches and should be used under the guidance of a healthcare professional to ensure safety and efficacy.
