Integrilin, generically known as eptifibatide, is a medication primarily used in the management and treatment of acute coronary syndrome (ACS) and during percutaneous coronary interventions (PCI) to prevent blood clots. It belongs to a class of drugs known as glycoprotein IIb/IIIa inhibitors, which work by preventing platelets in the blood from clumping together, thereby reducing the risk of forming harmful clots. Integrilin is administered intravenously, allowing it to act quickly in emergency situations. It is often used in hospitals under close medical supervision, particularly in patients undergoing angioplasty or stent placement, to maintain arterial patency and improve patient outcomes.
