Information
INTUNIV, generically known as guanfacine, is a prescription medication primarily used in the treatment of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) in children and adolescents. As a non-stimulant option, it functions differently from many other ADHD medications. INTUNIV belongs to a class of drugs known as alpha-2 adrenergic agonists. It works by affecting the part of the brain that helps regulate attention and impulsivity, thereby helping to improve symptoms of ADHD such as difficulty focusing, staying still, and impulsiveness. Unlike stimulant medications for ADHD, INTUNIV is less likely to cause insomnia and has a lower potential for abuse. It is often prescribed either alone or in combination with stimulant medications to achieve better control over ADHD symptoms.
