Information
Mayzent (siponimod) is a prescription medication used in the management of multiple sclerosis (MS), specifically for the treatment of secondary progressive forms of the disease, including clinically isolated syndrome, relapsing-remitting disease, and active secondary progressive disease in adults. It belongs to a class of drugs known as sphingosine 1-phosphate receptor modulators, which work by trapping immune cells in lymph nodes, preventing them from reaching the central nervous system where they could cause inflammation and damage to nerve cells. This mechanism helps reduce flare-ups of symptoms and can slow the progression of the disease. Mayzent is taken orally, and its use requires initial heart monitoring due to potential effects on heart rate.
