Information
Mercilon is a combined oral contraceptive pill that is used to prevent pregnancy. It contains two active ingredients, ethinylestradiol and desogestrel, which are synthetic versions of the female hormones estrogen and progesterone, respectively. Mercilon works by preventing ovulation, making it difficult for sperm to reach an egg, and altering the lining of the uterus to prevent attachment of a fertilized egg. It is typically taken once daily for 21 days followed by a 7-day break during which a withdrawal bleed usually occurs. Mercilon is also prescribed for its benefits in regulating menstrual cycles, reducing menstrual pain, and managing symptoms of hormonal imbalances. Like all contraceptive pills, it requires a prescription and comes with specific instructions for use to ensure effectiveness and minimize side effects.
