Millinette is a combined oral contraceptive pill, commonly referred to as a birth control pill, which is used to prevent pregnancy. It contains two active ingredients, ethinylestradiol and gestodene, which are synthetic versions of the natural female sex hormones, estrogen and progesterone, respectively. Millinette works by preventing ovulation (the release of an egg from the ovaries), thickening the mucus at the cervix to make it harder for sperm to enter the womb, and preventing the lining of the womb from thickening enough for an egg to grow in it. It is typically taken once daily for 21 days followed by a 7-day pill-free break during which a withdrawal bleed (similar to a period) occurs. Millinette is also prescribed for managing menstrual-related issues such as heavy, painful, or irregular periods, though its primary use is for contraception.
