Information
Nexium IV, also known by its generic name esomeprazole, is a proton pump inhibitor (PPI) used primarily to reduce stomach acid production. Administered intravenously, it is typically prescribed for patients who are unable to take oral medication. Nexium IV is effective in treating various conditions related to excessive stomach acid, such as gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), stomach ulcers, and Zollinger-Ellison syndrome. By decreasing the amount of acid produced in the stomach, it helps alleviate symptoms such as heartburn, difficulty swallowing, and persistent cough. This medication is also used to prevent and treat stomach ulcers caused by the use of NSAIDs (nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs) or infection with Helicobacter pylori.
