Information
Prandin, generically known as repaglinide, is an oral medication prescribed for the management of type 2 diabetes mellitus. It belongs to a class of drugs known as meglitinides, which work by stimulating the pancreas to release more insulin. This increase in insulin production helps lower blood sugar levels. Prandin is typically taken before meals to control the postprandial (after-meal) blood sugar spikes. It is often used in combination with other diabetes medications or dietary and lifestyle changes to achieve better blood glucose control. However, it is not suitable for the treatment of type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis. Patients are advised to closely follow their doctor's instructions regarding dosage and timing to optimize treatment effectiveness and minimize side effects.
