PREZISTA, also known by its generic name darunavir, is a prescription medication used in the treatment of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection. It belongs to a class of drugs known as protease inhibitors, which work by blocking the protease enzyme that HIV needs to multiply. This helps to decrease the amount of HIV in the body so the immune system can work better, reducing the risk of HIV-related illnesses and improving the quality of life for those diagnosed with the virus. PREZISTA is often used in combination with other antiretroviral medications as part of an antiretroviral therapy (ART) regimen. It is important to note that while PREZISTA can help manage HIV, it is not a cure for the virus.
