Questran Light is a medication primarily used to lower high levels of cholesterol in the blood. It contains the active ingredient cholestyramine, which belongs to a class of drugs known as bile acid sequestrants. By binding to bile acids in the intestine, Questran Light prevents their reabsorption. Since bile acids are made from cholesterol in the liver, this process effectively reduces the amount of cholesterol circulating in the blood. In addition to treating high cholesterol, Questran Light is also used to manage itching associated with certain liver diseases, by reducing the buildup of bile acids that can cause itching. It comes in a powder form that is mixed with water or another liquid before ingestion.
