Information
RECARBRIO is a combination antibiotic medication used to treat a variety of bacterial infections. It consists of three active ingredients: imipenem, a broad-spectrum beta-lactam antibiotic; cilastatin, a renal dehydropeptidase inhibitor that prevents the degradation of imipenem in the kidneys, thereby increasing its concentrations in the urinary tract and body; and relebactam, a beta-lactamase inhibitor that enhances the activity of imipenem against bacteria that produce beta-lactamase enzymes, which can otherwise render antibiotics ineffective. RECARBRIO is administered intravenously and is commonly used in hospital settings to treat complicated infections, including urinary tract infections, intra-abdominal infections, and hospital-acquired pneumonia, among others. Its broad-spectrum activity makes it a valuable option for treating infections caused by multi-drug resistant bacteria.
