Information
Rigevidon is a combined oral contraceptive pill that is widely used to prevent pregnancy. It contains two active ingredients, ethinylestradiol and levonorgestrel, which are synthetic versions of the naturally occurring female sex hormones, estrogen and progesterone, respectively. Rigevidon works by preventing ovulation, making it difficult for sperm to reach an egg, and changing the lining of the uterus to prevent attachment of a fertilized egg. It is typically taken once daily for 21 days followed by a 7-day pill-free break during which a withdrawal bleed, similar to a period, occurs. In addition to preventing pregnancy, Rigevidon can also be prescribed to manage menstrual cycle irregularities, reduce menstrual pain, and treat acne or heavy periods in some cases. Like all medications, it may have side effects and is not suitable for everyone, so it's important to consult a healthcare provider before starting Rigevidon.
