Information
RoActemra, also known by its generic name tocilizumab, is a prescription medication used in the treatment of several autoimmune diseases, including moderate to severe rheumatoid arthritis, systemic juvenile idiopathic arthritis, and giant cell arteritis among adults. It belongs to a class of drugs known as interleukin-6 (IL-6) receptor antagonists. IL-6 is a cytokine involved in inflammation and is found in high levels in patients with autoimmune conditions. By blocking the action of IL-6, RoActemra helps reduce inflammation, alleviate symptoms, and slow the progression of the diseases it is prescribed for. It is administered through intravenous infusion or subcutaneous injection, depending on the condition being treated. Like all medications, RoActemra can have side effects, and its use must be closely monitored by a healthcare provider.
