Information
Serenace, known generically as haloperidol, is a medication primarily used in the management of psychotic disorders such as schizophrenia. It belongs to a class of drugs known as antipsychotics, specifically the typical or first-generation antipsychotics. Haloperidol works by blocking dopamine receptors in the brain, which helps to reduce symptoms of psychosis including delusions, hallucinations, and disordered thinking. It may also be used to treat acute psychosis, Tourette syndrome, and for the control of tics and vocal utterances. Additionally, Serenace can be prescribed for the treatment of severe behavior problems in children, as well as for the management of symptoms of acute agitation in various psychiatric conditions. Despite its effectiveness, it is important to be aware of its potential side effects, which can include extrapyramidal symptoms, sedation, and tardive dyskinesia, among others.
