Information
SIMPONI, also known by its generic name golimumab, is a biologic medication used in the treatment of several autoimmune diseases, including rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, and ulcerative colitis. It belongs to a class of drugs known as tumor necrosis factor (TNF) blockers, which work by inhibiting the action of TNF, a substance in the body that causes inflammation and is involved in the autoimmune response. SIMPONI is administered through injection, either under the skin (subcutaneously) or directly into a vein (intravenously), depending on the condition being treated. By targeting and blocking TNF, SIMPONI helps to reduce inflammation, alleviate symptoms, and slow the progression of the diseases it is used to treat. However, it can also lower the body's ability to fight infections, so patients are monitored for signs of infection during treatment.
