SUTENT, also known by its generic name sunitinib malate, is a prescription medication used in the treatment of various types of cancer. It is an oral, multi-targeted receptor tyrosine kinase (RTK) inhibitor that works by blocking multiple molecular targets implicated in the growth, proliferation, and spread of cancer cells. SUTENT is specifically approved for the treatment of advanced renal cell carcinoma (kidney cancer), imatinib-resistant or -intolerant gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GIST), and progressive, well-differentiated pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors (PNET) in patients with unresectable, locally advanced, or metastatic disease.
