Information
SYMTUZA is a prescription medication used in the treatment of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection in adults and pediatric patients weighing at least 40 kilograms. It is a combination antiretroviral medication that contains four active ingredients: darunavir, cobicistat, emtricitabine, and tenofovir alafenamide. Darunavir is a protease inhibitor that prevents HIV from multiplying, while cobicistat is used to increase the effectiveness of darunavir by slowing its breakdown in the body. Emtricitabine and tenofovir alafenamide are both reverse transcriptase inhibitors that also prevent the virus from multiplying. SYMTUZA is taken orally, typically once a day, and is known for its convenience as a single-tablet regimen, simplifying treatment for patients by reducing the number of pills needed to manage their HIV infection effectively.
