Information
Synphase is a type of oral contraceptive pill, commonly referred to as a birth control pill, that is used to prevent pregnancy. It falls under the category of combined oral contraceptives, meaning it contains two types of female hormones: estrogen and progestogen. Synphase works by preventing ovulation (the release of an egg from an ovary), thickening the mucus in the cervix to make it harder for sperm to reach an egg, and changing the lining of the uterus to prevent attachment of a fertilized egg. It is typically taken once daily for 21 days followed by a 7-day break during which a withdrawal bleed (similar to a menstrual period) occurs. Like all medications, it may have side effects and is not suitable for everyone, so it's important to consult a healthcare provider before starting Synphase or any other contraceptive method.
