Information
TachoSil is a fibrin sealant patch used in surgery to achieve hemostasis, which is the process of stopping bleeding, and to seal tissues. It is a unique medical product that combines a collagen sponge with a coating of human fibrinogen and thrombin. When applied to a bleeding surface, the thrombin converts fibrinogen into fibrin, and, in conjunction with the collagen sponge, it forms a stable clot that adheres to the tissue, effectively sealing the area and stopping the bleeding. TachoSil is particularly useful in surgeries where control of bleeding is critical and can be challenging, such as liver resections or cardiovascular surgery. Its ease of use and the ability to be cut into various shapes make it a versatile tool in the operating room.
