Information
Targocid, known generically as teicoplanin, is an antibiotic medication used in the treatment of serious infections caused by Gram-positive bacteria, including methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) and Enterococcus species. It belongs to the glycopeptide class of antibiotics, similar to vancomycin, and works by inhibiting the synthesis of bacterial cell walls, ultimately leading to the death of the bacteria. Targocid is often reserved for use in situations where other antibiotics are ineffective or cannot be used, such as in patients with allergies to beta-lactam antibiotics. It can be administered intravenously or intramuscularly, depending on the severity and location of the infection. Due to its potent activity and specific target range, Targocid plays a crucial role in the management of severe bacterial infections in the hospital setting.
