Information
Tasmar, generically known as tolcapone, is a medication primarily used in the management of Parkinson's disease. It functions as a COMT (catechol-O-methyltransferase) inhibitor, which works by enhancing the levels of dopamine in the brain, thereby improving the symptoms of Parkinson's disease such as tremors, stiffness, and slowness of movement. Tasmar is often used in combination with other medications, such as levodopa and carbidopa, to increase their effectiveness. However, due to its association with potentially serious liver toxicity, the use of Tasmar is generally reserved for patients who do not adequately respond to or cannot tolerate other treatments for Parkinson's disease. Regular monitoring of liver function is recommended for patients taking this medication to mitigate the risk of liver damage.
