Information
Tazocin is a combination antibiotic medication that consists of two active ingredients: piperacillin and tazobactam. Piperacillin is a broad-spectrum beta-lactam antibiotic that belongs to the penicillin class, effective against a wide range of bacteria. Tazobactam is a beta-lactamase inhibitor that enhances the efficacy of piperacillin by preventing the degradation of the antibiotic by beta-lactamase enzymes produced by some bacteria. This combination allows Tazocin to be effective against a variety of bacterial infections, including those resistant to other antibiotics. It is commonly used to treat severe infections such as pneumonia, urinary tract infections, skin infections, and intra-abdominal infections. Tazocin is administered intravenously and its use should be guided by the results of susceptibility testing and the advice of a healthcare professional.
