Information
Toremifene, marketed under the brand name TOREM, is a non-steroidal selective estrogen receptor modulator (SERM) used primarily in the treatment of advanced breast cancer. It works by binding to estrogen receptors in breast tissue, thereby blocking the effects of estrogen, a hormone which can promote the growth of certain types of breast tumors. Toremifene is similar in structure and function to tamoxifen, another well-known SERM. It is typically prescribed for postmenopausal women with estrogen receptor-positive or unknown breast cancer. Besides its anti-estrogenic effects in breast tissue, toremifene can also exert estrogen-like effects on other tissues such as bone, helping to maintain bone density and reduce the risk of osteoporosis. However, like all medications, it can have side effects and is not suitable for everyone, thus its use should be closely monitored by a healthcare professional.
