Information
Tracrium, known generically as atracurium besilate, is a non-depolarizing skeletal muscle relaxant used in anesthesia to facilitate endotracheal intubation and to provide muscle relaxation during surgery or mechanical ventilation. It works by blocking the transmission of nerve impulses to the muscles, effectively causing temporary paralysis of the muscle fibers. Tracrium is administered intravenously, and its effects are rapidly onset but of medium duration, making it suitable for both short and long surgical procedures. The drug is metabolized in the body through a process known as Hofmann elimination and ester hydrolysis, making it safer for use in patients with renal or hepatic impairments. However, like all medications, it should be used under strict medical supervision, with careful monitoring of neuromuscular function to adjust dosing as needed.
