Information
Vaborem, known generically as meropenem/vaborbactam, is an antibiotic medication used in the treatment of complicated urinary tract infections (cUTI), including pyelonephritis, caused by susceptible Gram-negative bacteria. Vaborem combines meropenem, a broad-spectrum carbapenem antibiotic, with vaborbactam, a beta-lactamase inhibitor. This combination enhances the activity of meropenem by protecting it from degradation by certain beta-lactamase enzymes produced by resistant bacteria. Vaborem is administered intravenously and is particularly valuable in treating infections caused by bacteria that are resistant to other antibiotics, making it a critical option in the fight against antibiotic-resistant infections. It is important for use under the guidance of a healthcare professional to ensure its efficacy and to help prevent the development of further antibiotic resistance.
