Information
VEMLIDY is a prescription medication that belongs to a class of drugs known as antivirals. Specifically, it is used for the treatment of chronic hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection in adults with evidence of viral replication and active liver inflammation. VEMLIDY contains the active ingredient tenofovir alafenamide, which works by inhibiting the action of the viral DNA polymerase, an enzyme crucial for the replication of the virus. This action helps to decrease the amount of virus in the body, thereby reducing liver damage and improving liver function. VEMLIDY is favored for its improved safety profile regarding kidney and bone health compared to its predecessor, tenofovir disoproxil fumarate (TDF). It is administered orally, typically once a day, and is known for its effectiveness in achieving and maintaining viral suppression when taken as directed.
