Information
Votubia, known generically as everolimus, is a medication used in the treatment of various types of tumors and cancers, as well as certain non-cancerous conditions. It belongs to a class of drugs known as mTOR inhibitors, which work by blocking the mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR), a protein that regulates cell growth, proliferation, and survival. By inhibiting this protein, Votubia can slow down the growth of cancer cells or reduce the size of tumors. It is specifically approved for conditions such as advanced renal cell carcinoma (a type of kidney cancer), subependymal giant cell astrocytoma (SEGA) associated with tuberous sclerosis complex (TSC) in patients who require therapeutic intervention but are not candidates for curative surgical resection, and certain types of pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors (PNETs). Votubia is administered orally and its use must be closely monitored by healthcare professionals due to the potential for serious side effects.
