Information
Zelleta is a type of contraceptive pill, specifically classified as a progestogen-only pill (POP), also known as a mini pill. It contains the active ingredient desogestrel, which is a synthetic version of the female sex hormone progesterone. Unlike combined contraceptive pills, Zelleta does not contain estrogen, making it a suitable option for women who cannot take estrogen for various reasons, such as breastfeeding mothers or those with certain health conditions. Zelleta works primarily by preventing the release of an egg from the ovary (ovulation) and also increases the thickness of the vaginal fluid to prevent sperm from reaching an egg. It is taken daily without a break, and when taken correctly, it is a highly effective method of preventing pregnancy.
