It contains the active ingredient desogestrel, which is a synthetic version of the female sex hormone progesterone. Unlike combined contraceptive pills, Zelleta does not contain estrogen, making it a suitable option for women who cannot take estrogen for various reasons, such as breastfeeding mothers or those with certain health conditions.
